Ceramics and Fine Art
Giovanna Biallo Stone, born in Bari, Italy, graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Fine Art from the University of Cape Town (Michaelis School of Fine Art) in 1979.
In 1983 Biallo opened a photographic studio in Johannesburg. From 1988 until 1992, Biallo taught at the Johannesburg Art Foundation.
She studied 'Background - Foreground' with renowned ceramist Suzette Munnik on a part-time basis during 1995.
In 1996 Biallo traveled to London with Munnik and a specialized group where they traced the rich history of world ceramics and met with prominent contemporary ceramists.
Today, Giovanna Biallo Stone is a full-time artist based in Cape Town, South Africa, where she works alongside her painter husband Simon Stone. Her distinctive body of work spans delicate hand-built porcelain sculptures, pinched dinner services with underglaze and metallic gold lustres, luminous oil paintings, and expressive gouache and watercolour works on paper.
